Wiley Building Hutchinson, Kansas

The saga of the Wiley building in Hutchinson Kansas kinda has me stumped. In one regard the whole process and idea of eminent domain makes me cringe.

Not under any circumstances do I think the government should be able to take a private property owners assets away from them if their taxes are in good standing.

But this guy, George Nerhan is a bone head. Not because he won't sell, that's 100% his perogative, he is a bonehead because he won't take steps to make the place a usable building and a profitable venture. We gotta find a way to get that piece of property from him

************* Holy Crap************

In continuing research I just discovered he hasn't paid his property taxes for the last 3 years.

Screw him take it from him and make it City Hall.

Ok. Make it CIty Hall. What the heck does that mean? I don't want to leave it up to the PMS (pale, male, stale) to have another crummy, ugly, uninspired city building in Hutch. This is a chance to demonstrate some vision and leadership on behalf of our city leaders. I don't trust them to come up with it on their own. Maybe my ego needs a check. I'll be there ready to yell and stomp my feet if I need to.

OK I got rash when i said make it City Hall.

Best scenario is a group of private developers buy it and make it happen.

The reason I think we are gonna have to fall back on taking it (only because he is delinquent on taxes) is he hasn't been willing to sell. So then you have to make it into City Hall because it can't be imminent domained and turned out for profit from private dollars.

City Hall is the best option if he wont sell to private developers or if none offer.
