And the winner is.....

Ok the quotes contest...

This is gonna suck.

Here's what I have done, I pulled my top ten from the list. I went for a diverse top ten, not sure they are the true top ten but more of a top ten with an intentional lack of duplicate submitters, kinda. Make Sense? not to me either!!

Anyhow, here's my top ten.....

1."It is better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid, than to open it and remove all doubt." - Mark Twain - Mitchell

2. "Don't ask yourself what the world needs. Ask yourself what makes you come alive and then go and do that. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive." - Howard Thurman -Nate Dogg

3. "A lot of people run a race to see who is fastest. I run to see who has the most guts, who can punish himself into exhausting pace, and then at the end, punish himself even more. Nobody is going to win a 5,000 meter race after running an easy 2 miles. Not with me. If I lose forcing the pace all the way, well, at least I can live with myself." - Steve Prefontaine - Scott

4. "If you bungle raising your children, I don't think whatever else you do matters very much." -Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis - Jessica

5. "Guns kill people like spoons made Rosie O'Donnell fat" - unknown - Renee.

6. "Pick battles big enough to matter, small enough to win" - My Grandma said it - who knows who said originally - Mom nominated it.

7. "My religion consists of a humble admiration of the illimitable superior spirit who reveals himself in the slight details we are able to perceive with our frail and feeble mind." - Albert Einstein - Nora

8. “If you have an apple and I have an apple and we exchange these apples then you and I will still each have one apple. But if you have an idea and I have an idea and we exchange these ideas, then each of us will have two ideas.” - George Bernard Shaw - Anonymous

9. “The best government is a benevolent tyranny tempered by an occasional assassination.” - Voltaire - anonymous

10. "Real integrity is doing the right thing, knowing that nobody's going to know whether you did it or not." - Oprah - Karen

The winner is .....

Scott with the Prefontaine quote.

Here's why... I Couldn't make up my mind, I went around and around and I loved all 10 of these quotes equally and for a wide variety of reasons.

I had to rule some out because of nepotism reasons, anonymous obviously couldn't win, but other than that they were on a level playing field.

Except... Scott's really did lead me to take a look at myself personally and change some things.

So Scott wins.

What does Scott win?

He had a $35.00 Amazon gift certificate in his email inbox this morning, his quote is in the header of the blog (that won't last) and, much more importantly, he got his name on the dinosaur. Every contest winner from here on out will get their name on the dinosaur.

Scott you will always be the first though!

(click on the picture, it's funny how big it is.)

  1. Congrats Scott! That sure is a cool dinosaur. RAWR!!!!

  2. It reminds me of the Colbert show, when Stephen askes guests, "George Bush, great president or the greatest president?"

Steve Prefontaine... author of great quotes, or the greatest quote? Here's a quote from me:

"Einstein can't hold Steve Prefontaines ballsack." -Nate Schmidt

I've never been that big into quotes, but my god, do I want to get my name on the dinosaur. I just moved CodyTalks to the top of my RSS feed. What's the next contest? How about "Global warming, fact or myth?" I'm all over that one.

Congrats Scott, and congrats to Steve Prefontaine, for perhaps his most unlikely victory.

  3. That was a good choice. Congrats to Scott!

  4. Not to knock Nate's quote. But, for reasons I am not going to go into I think it would be physically impossible for Einstein to hold Steve Prefontaines speed bag. The quote seems to be overstating the obvious. I think anonymous got screwed, he had two quotes in the top ten.

  5. Rock on man. I feel a little guilty when so many people put so much effort into choosing their quotes, but I don't feel guilty about that bad ass dinosaur.

Do you get anything back if I click thru your amazon suggestions to use that thing? I just might need to preorder Wii Fit here in the next week or so.

  6. Scott,

Why do you think I gave you an Amazon gift certificate?

    I get 4%!

Max all your credit cards out while you are on there. hehe!

I love the discussion in the comments.. so... GO FOR IT!
