Reno County Relay for Life.

I am sitting at the Trinity High School Track watching hundreds of people walking around the track to fight cancer.

This is actually a very cool social event. Live music, lots of food, inflatables for the kids. Neat place to be and a great cause.

2 things really stick out on my mind.

1. There are a lot of people here. We often think of our community as little and really in the big scheme it is. But we can still show up in force to tackle a good cause.

2. I don't know very many people here. Honestly I bet I don't know 2% of the people here. Can't decide if that is because I am not social enough this is just a bigger community than I sometimes consider it.

Thanks again to everyone that helped by donating to Tam's fundraising. Her goal was $400 and with the online and cash in hand she broke $1,000 so you all really stepped up. Thanks. Very cool.

  1. It's around noon and I haven't slept much as I, too, was at Relay for Life and spent the night. It was a great event. I wanted to comment on Cody's article - espeically #2 - I sat there and thought "I really don't know a lot of people here" - then I thought "It's really great people that I don't get to meet and be with regularly" so I felt it was an opportunity for me, a person who has lived here since 1964 to meet different people. Great event, great cause. You'll never know what it was like walking across a football field holding your eight year old grandson's hand at midnight and seeing tears stream down his little face as he's just read two of his grandmother's names go over a huge scream as a "memorial" for luminaries for cancer. He understood the concept of why we were there, he walked the laps, he knows what working for "causes" means - he's being raised right - but it doesn't mean at moments like that he doesn't miss two very important people in his life. He really is being raised right - step up parents - teach your kids what is all means and what their responsibilities are to "causes" - it makes them better people - heck, it makes them dynamic and special kids - both my grandkids were troopers for this event!!
