Tiger Woods

I thought about this long and hard and I decided that Michael Jordan remained my all time greatest competitor ever. Then Aaron E sent a comment that really made me rethink it and decide that Lance Armstrong was the guy that deserves the award.

Then my mind cleared I remember that I owed it to all 6 of my loyal readers to make the right choice and Tiger Woods wins.

Tiger get the title of super duper no kidding Greatest Competitor of all time. The guy took hard work and focus and discipline and redefined an almost ancient game.

I think maybe Michael was bestowed a little too much natural ability to win this particular contest. And I can't get the fact that Lance Armstrong dumped Sheryl Crow out of my head.

Tiger wins... End of discussion, unless you guys wanna discuss it, then we will.

  1. Tiger is the best hands down. There isn't even any close competition to it! No person has ever been as dominant as he has been. He dominated as a junior, amateur and now as a professional. That is his entire life! You don’t have to run a 4.3 40 or bench press 400lbs to play, but you do have to have determination and concentration as well as athletic ability. That’s where Tiger blows everyone away. There is no one in professional sports that has more determination and better concentration than Tiger Woods. Golf is the hardest individual sport to play. You are not only competing against your opponents, but you are also competing against the course and yourself! Tiger makes the game look easy, and he makes his competition look foolish.

  2. Lizalde,

We would really appreciate it if you wouldn't beat around the bush, just come out and say what your opinion is. Just kidding thanks for the great comment. I agree. I don't think it is as completely cut and dry as you made it. But I agree.

  3. I agree with your decision Cody. While I submitted Lance, I had already decided that I thought Tiger was to best all around competitor.

While not only a phenomenal athlete, I don't think there has been an athlete that has done more for a sport than Tiger. Golf ratings shoot through the roof when he is playing and I think that they are up regardless if he is playing just because of what he has been able to do.

Not only with the increase of popularity of the sport, I think he also has inspired children to pick up some clubs. Golf is a discipline and is probably the most humbling sport that can be played. I say that both discipline and learning how to be humble (i.e. not an ego maniac) are both good for children.

Besides all that who else can drive their 20 million dollar yacht to a golf tournament, get millions of dollars a year in endorsement and tournament winnings and still play to win every single hole in every single tournament he plays in. That's got to be worth something in and of itself.
