Should a 9 year old be better than me at anything????

Now I know alot of kids are incredible at things... all the way from some freak of nature savant type thing to kids that just practice the hell out of their piano and are doing concerts at 3 years old. Those type of situations aren't what I am talking about.

In my house we have a Wii and a Playstation 2 in comparison to most households I know of, they get played very little. Seriously I bet they don't get played twice a week on average. We are pretty hardcore parents about getting some exercise and reading and not just sitting in front of a TV with and game controller in hand all the time, plus we really aren't home very much.

Ok so with all that being said... Should a 9 year old kid who is not any type of a Savant, doesn't really play the games much more than me and again... is 9 freaking years old, be able to just absolutely whoop my ass at video games???

I understand that if we were having a competition of who can crawl into the smallest hole... He should be able to dominate me at that!

But something that requires eye hand coordination, quick thinking and a grasp of what ever game we are playing???? Shouldn't 33 years of life experience allow me to kick the crap out him at that type of competition. I don't think I am just a horrible video gamer, I am definitely not good, but not like "Challenged" or anything at it.

I don't know... the kid is getting rocks for Christmas cause I know for a couple more years I can throw them farther than him.

That's now MY favorite quote of the week.

Relax..I used to whoop up on my dad and he had at least a few years on me playing pac-man, space invaders, etc...he used to get frustrated, then we stopped. Instead, he started buying games where we would play together. Then he'd get ticked when I greedily took all the secret treasure...

Then he bought me rocks and threw them AT me.

  2. My kids are much better at the piano, than I, they are better on the computer, at texting, at math, at laughing and being silly, they know how to relax and be lazy, better than I can!
I hope in the long run, they are better at EVERYTHING.

  3. Did we all sense a bit of "pride" in this blog, a smile of the face of a dad, maybe a little challenge in the words but more "man he makes me proud"' Being around this family a great deal when they play games - which they do a lot as you can see as they are still the family with only 5 channels on their TV - they play with severe competition - all four of them - no one, I mean no one - not even a little old grandma or the the 9 year old "gets a break" - you play to "win" - you learn the rules, you understand them, you get maybe a trial run, then everyone is out to "win" - THAT'S FROM BIRTH! You can't "pout", (was Cody pouting here?? -ha), stomp to your room, you get back in there, you get better and continue to play! It gets wild sometimes but I've learned it's the best way and it follows my grandchildren to the football field, basketball court, soccer field, volleyball court, dodgeball court, fastpitch field, in the classroom (as cody said -their kids are not idle much - they don't believe in it)-they're happy, they don't "pout" - they are out to have a good time and "beat their dad" - hee hee! I bet Cody stayed up all night working on his skills!!!
