I took a Personal Day today...

Our office policies don't really list personal days as an official entity so I guess I took a vacation day, but it was more of a personal day than anything I have done in a long time.

Sounds kinda strange coming off a weekend but I need some time for me with my kids. The weekend was soccer games and a wedding and lots of planned activities. Don't get me wrong, we had a blast and I love the activities that we haul our kids and our family as a whole to, but, I needed some time to just chill and be around the house and be with the kids and just them.

We played and we worked and we just sat a little. We did yard work and we played and we cleaned house, but it was just all about us. It was an incredibly good day for me. Hopefully good for them as well.

Folks, listen to me... take the time to make the things happen that we all know we should make happen. I am not saying quit your job if that isnt an option. Just dont forget the work you do as a parent is gigantically more important than anything you do 9-5.

I have written quite a few posts about parenting (here) and as a I constanly go back and read through some of them, I kinda see myself growing and developing as a parent. It's a great way for me to remind myself how important this ultimate job I have is.

It's great how much I truly do enjoy this job.

Love Ya kids!!

  1. You are so right, Cody!! Sometimes we just get so caught up in the day to day that we forget to make time for the most important things! Thanks for reminding us!

  2. One of the things I have learned from my kids and my life experiences is this: Don't forget to play. I used to have a vanity plate that read LUV2PLA. It was conceived many different ways. But ultimately it meant I love to play. Show your kids that life is great. Playing is fun; no matter what your age - or what stage of life you are in. They will forever treasure that lesson...

    Derrick,

You are right as well finding a good balance between play and work is truly the secret to happiness most of the time.
