...Twitter is coffee shop of the world... the whole world can now know about the good or bad thing you did just like it's always happened at the small town coffee shop.

I have an idea but it completely relies on your participation...

*** Commenting on this post gives you a chance to be a part of something.

So deep down inside everyone of us has the part (some a big part, some not so much) that wants to fix the world right?

I do at least...

So I had this thought...

Let's present an opportunity for folks to fix something.

Here's the thought...

1. Lotsa things out there need fixed.

2. Some things are way to freaking big for the 3 people that read this to actually fix.

3. When I say 'fix" I actually have in mind we will fix a problem. For instance don't list your problem as "World Hunger" ... we can't fix that right here on this website. But if you put... "My neighbor ladies microwave went out and she can't afford another one right now" .... still no guarantees but we may stumble across someone who would ship a perfectly good microwave to her cause its sitting in their garage not being used.

4. This may be dumb and not work ... I hope not.

5. Admittedly I think my blog is worthless to readers so I am doing this for partly selfish reasons to feel like I accomplished something on my blog.

6. There's no #6 I was just on a roll with numbers

7. This can all be anonymous there is a link to "contact me" at the top right of the page if you want it to be.

So ... I am not right now asking for you to help someone... I am asking for you to list out issues or problems that need little fixes in your neck of the woods. Post lots of them... cause we need diversity to raise the odds that we find a solution/s. Its really not hard... look around, think, what could be fixed really quick if we just made a connection.

List 'em and I will help facilitate connections if the functionality on my blog doesn't make it easy. If you don't have any... share the link and get folks to post stuff. Let's all make it possible to say we helped fixed the world today... (and I need some help justifying to my wife why I spend time on this blog)

  2. I would like to see some local businesses get some help from RANDOM people. Some of the small shop owners need a little painting touch up, trash taken out, a good cleaning, maybe their lawn out front cleaned up before the winter. I think that sometimes our local small business owners can get swallowed up by the bigger agencies and work so hard on staying afloat, that maybe they just need an extra hand at a volunteer's price!

  3. I haven't really heard of anything specific, but I do have a way that people can help in general!

The Kansas Equality Coalition is holding a donation drive for the Reno County Food Bank on December 3 and 4. Stop by 2602 Heather Parkway between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. on either of those days. Drop off your non-perishible food items or cash donations and enjoy a Christmas light display timed to music you can listen to through your car radio.

Also, I've been going through an existential crisis of trying to figure out what I want to do with my life. I'm starting to think that I might be good at P.R., advertising, and/or event planning. If you know of anyone who needs part-time help with any of these things, could you hook us up?

  4. Pratt has a group of people who started Pay It Forward Pratt..I think that's what it is called. They have a Facebook page. They collect donations of furniture items..no clothing..repair it if needed, and give it away free. They have helped a lot of people.

  5. There are many families locally that need a Thanksgiving dinner! Can we find a way to see how many would donate a dinner to a needy family?
I should be able to get a start on the list of families at school.

  6. OOPS
Did not mean to have the dinners idea above be anonymous.

  7. Just another thought to throw out there for all to be thinking of - it's free and easy! I work with the Reno County Blood Drive for the Red Cross and our donations have been down the last few drives. I'm there a lot and the sad thing I see is that it's the "senior" generation giving -how can we get - or help make it more convenient for the younger generation to give! There is such a shortage of blood and I honestly believe until the need is there for your own family member, it's hard to realize the "true" need. The next drive is January 17, 18 and 19 - just wanted a plug for a good cause! Also, anonymous, I'm with you on the "dinner" idea! Great one!

  9. Check with your local EMS and see what needs they may have. Smaller services usually have a long list of needs.

  10. Cody, I've had a page on facebook for some time now called Hope In Hutchinson. It's a place where people can post what they need (a couch, lamp, coat, crib, that microwave, etc.), and people who have the items sitting in storage or their basements can donate them to that person. It's a great way to recycle goods, and meet the needs of our neighbors!
