ok so everyone wants to know how to use twitter better... here you go...

So about 3:15 this afternoon a 1-800 number comes up on caller id and its someone who either lives in New England area or just moved to south central Kansas from that area. (Not knocking that area... the point is I was being solicited by someone 1,000 miles away.) They wanted me to buy advertising in a sports program for a school district in our county.

Ok real quick... If you have local school aged kids involved in the program you need to sell ads for... use 'em... its ok and you will have better results. (not the point of this post tho)

So I tweeted this:

"Just an fyi... you have some telemarketer call me about advertising in your school program, your screwed, send a kid who cares you win."

and 9 minutes later a Public Information Officer from one of the other school districts in our county tweets:

" Was it allegedly representing USD XXX or [local high school] if so, let me know."

That's how you do it folks. Monitor and engage your community... whatever it is. Then communicate with people to help them solve issues that are related to the subject area you wanna be in. Quit over-thinking it and making rules and bad-mouthing folks who you think do it wrong and just do that and it will work.

p.s. The telemarketer wasn't representing the district who contacted me on twitter... I think that district understands community communication and the value of engagement.
