From Wikipedia: "Entrepreneur in the English language is a term applied to a person who is willing to help launch a new venture or enterprise and accept full responsibility for the outcome." (actually Wikipedia gives about 14 variations, I liked this one best.)
From Dictionary.com: "a person who organizes and manages any enterprise, especially a business, usually with considerable initiative and risk." (I don't like this one as much.... but I felt I needed at least 2 references)
I had the truly incredible opportunity to speak with a group of College students in their Entrepreneur class yesterday... yes.. they are in a really cool Entrepreneur class and getting College credit for it.
While we were discussing issues and bouncing ideas and dreaming big... these words came out of my mouth...
"I never really had a goal of being an entrepreneur.... I don't even know if I am one now... but as an employee, I just got tired of people not listening to, or not being as excited as I was about my ideas."
Every once in a long ass time... I say stuff that actually inspires me. :)
I had never really thought of the reasons why I suck so bad as an employee... hell I don't even know if the statement above is true... but it's what I am going with.
In a weird coincidence, or aligning of the stars on Monday I posted this twitter/facebook update:
"I think maybe its time for the people of Kansas to just punt on Topeka and DC and just start fixing shit ourselves..."
I got a lot of responses to it... actually 100% agreement, not very common for my posts...
So we all just need to get back to and revive the American entrepreneurial spirit... right?
It's not just about starting a business, it maybe getting a bike path in your town, it maybe promoting arts... it can be about anything... if you are frustrated that the people you are trying to talk into doing something (politicians?) aren't listening to your ideas... just go do it yourself.
