Holy Crapsticks I need help with a theme song...

Ok so I have a new project going... I am launching a radio/internet show... if you weren't aware, there's some more details here.

So I had the thought "If I am gonna have a show that a few people might watch/listen to, I should have a theme song... or at least a little intro music." Literally within an hour of that thought Brian Davis of "The Brian Davis Band" posts on the CodyTalks Facebook Page that he would like to get together and talk about the band writing a theme song for the show... "Wow" I thought... "this is gonna be really smooth and easy."

Then last Friday Brian and I had a meeting and he started asking me the questions that a song writer would ask when working on a song for someone... they were easy at first and then my brain started smoking. I didn't really know the answers to things like, "What are people's impressions of your blog?", "What are some adjectives that people would use to describe your opinions?"

I sat there and stammered around like a buffoon for long enough that Brian finally said "Hey, why don't you write a post and ask for people's input?" I immediately loved the idea... so here's that post.

I have always believed that input from as many people as possible is the best way to gather info to make something cool.... so... you got any thoughts, input, suggestions on what route we should take for a CodyTalks theme song?

  1. Quirky, irreverent, slightly mad .... So I'm thinking music like what they played in the bar scenes in star trek. No?

  2. OK. Here are my thoughts. I listened so some of the music of The BDB and there is no doubt that is a talented group and I dig their music. This is absolutely no slight on their artistic vision or talent because they obviously have a lot in both regards. When listening to talk shows on the radio their intros are almost always intense punch you in the face instrumentals that grab your attention. Most of BDB stuff appears to me to be nice chillin music with a great message. The intro to "We will sing your praise" comes close to what I am talking about but most of their music I would define as a softer side of rock. I don't think that lyrics are necessary as your talk show is the content that people are going to want to listen to. When listening to the music of talk shows they typically stop the intro music before the lyrics start.

I get the impression that your show is going to be somewhat controversial, at times edgy, so your intro music should reflect this...meaning a solid rock smack you around intro ;) I am sure that The BDB can do something like this for you.

  3. I was hoping for something like "I'm Bringin' Sexy Back" but maybe that should just be everyone's personal theme song.

But adjectives - irreverent, pithy, earnest, forthright, sharp.... I don' t know that those are good for a song....

  4. Thanks for the compliments Aaron but the link is for a different BDB. They are out of Colorado and are no doubt talented but slightly more laid back then the Hutchinson BDB. We have a slightly more rock or southern rock sound. Not sure how to get you to us as the vanity user name i tried to setup for some reason linked to my personal page.

It will probably be more of the instrumental stuff that is used for the bulk of the show but there will possibly be some lyrics during the intro of the show. The end goal is to have a complete song that can be found online but probably is never heard entirely on the radio.

Some ideas are already swirlling around in my head from what I gleaned from Cody last week but I would love to get something that becomes the glue that binds all the thoughts together.

Give me some one or two word phrases describing Cody or what you envision his show being like. What kinds of catch phrases do you hear from him? Throw it all out there and let me and my bandmates sort it out.
