The Cure for Drama Queens.

The Urban Dictionary defines "Drama Queen" like this:

"Someone who turns something unimportant into a major deal. Someone who blows things way out of proportion when ever the chance is given."

I am constantly preaching to my kids to not be "Drama Queens", to quit worrying about what everyone else is doing, saying, accomplishing and focus on making their lives and the lives of those they truly care about better.

I think we all have a little bit of drama queen in us... I don't think anyone is immune from a "OMG did you see what that guy is wearing" or "Can you believe that he is sleeping with her"... its human nature and I am not casting stones, I am not innocent.

The point of this post I see more and more everyday people trying to make their lives important with drama queen tactics. They aren't happy with the things they are accomplishing so they create "drama" in the fact they have information on others or by dramatizing the faults they see in others. Another giant example is the insane amount of importance we put on the personal lives of celebrities. If folks were stoked and proud about the projects they have going in their personal lives, plain and simple, they wouldn't have time or energy to care about Snookie's baby.

So the cure for "Drama Queen's"is to find a project, anything, that makes your life and the life of folks around you better. Clean a park, volunteer at a shelter or soup kitchen. Become a Big Brother/Big Sister... something, anything.

Quit giving a shit about idiots that go on TV to find love, Wipeout is better TV than the Bachelorette... Start giving a shit about making the world, your world, a better place. There's a billion projects with 50 miles of you that need your help, your time, your money, your ability to spread the word.

We need less Drama Queens and more neighbors.

  1. OMG did you see what Cody said!!! We are simply too busy living our own lives to watch someone else living theirs on "reality" tv. To admit the truth.. I don't know who or what a Snookie is (But I think it would make a great pet name!). I agree whole-heartedly--people need to get out and DO something with their lives. volunteering is a great way to not only help the community, but to meet new people and learn new skills! There are many different places to volunteer locally--The American Red Cross Disaster Services, CERT, CASA, Kansas Department of Corrections, the Animal Shelter, and even the zoo!! There are so many options right here in Hutchinson and there is a need to match every interest. Turn off the TV and go live your life!

    1. Great comment Sharon! Not only does the world need folks to "turn off the TV and go live your life"... Those people would be measurably happier!

  2. Darn, I wanted to like Sharon's comment but there isn't a like button in blogger.

I still say I could give a rat's ass about any of these so-called reality stars lives. We are every bit as important to this world as they are.

Make the reality of your own world and the lives of others around you better.

    1. you are so right. I think we are MORE important than the reality stars because WE are the ones that take a stand and change the world around us. What are the stars doing?? Anything that can get them ratings--which means that nothing they are doing is real, and nothing they do is changing the world around them to make it a better place.

  3. Can't stand the celebrity enterage. IT's all pointless, and a waste of time. I do not watch reality shows, as I know they are not real to begin with. It's all staged and set up. I could care less about Kim Cardashian's life what Bradjolina wore on Oscar night. nor Do I care about the life of those who think they are better because they simply have more money. I would rather be me than the nipped and tucked socialites who in REALITY are not any happier than the ones who have less.

  4. One thing I teach my kiddo is that kids are constantly changing. What is cool at this second will not be in 3 months. What they look like right now is not what they will look like in a year. Puberty will happen, weight gain/loss will happen, everyone grows, everyone changes. People gain and lose wealth. Teaching your children to judge others less and to take a harder look at themselves is a good spot to prevent DQ disease.

    1. Another phenomenal line/quote!

      Good stuff!

  5. As much as I love social media, it is easy for many to slip into drama queen mode. People bitch about everything and every slight (perceived or real). Drama queens are emotional and societal vampires, sucking the energy, patience and "give a crap" from the rest of us.

    1. That's like poetry... mommymanifesto writes better than I do.

I agree with the comment... completely. But I do wanna say Social Media is not the cause of any of it! People cause it, social media just makes it easier to spread the drama. The telephone did the same thing when it reached critical mass.
