I believe that if the parents were 'happier' and felt good about themselves and their lives, in turn, the children would be too.
ReplyDeleteWe have a 'parenting' epidemic due to our society epidemic.
We are one of the few countries that worries so about how we 'parent'. That worries about so many things that we do.
I think structure is important, and discipline. I have never advocated a hand to the child, I even speak out against it each time I hear about it, because I do not agree that it is necessary under any circumstance.
We have an entire society of unhappy people, stressed out by everything from the economy and jobs, and fearing everything from all sides.
We are unhealthy, eating foods that nourish neither body nor soul. We are over medicated to try and treat our unhappiness. We have advertising that reinforces how we do not measure up, we have forces that do not want us empowered with the knowledge that we are OK. We are unsatisfied because our society tells us we need more and newer and better and faster, and we are not good enough.
How are our kids handling all of that? Not very well. Who would.
May the issue of 'bad' parenting open the box, and in it we discover the hidden sources of why so many seem 'out of control' and with no direction. Maybe we can help our community in a wholesome way and turn all our lives around.
