  1. Can you have a culture that doesn't praise bullies, when we make 'bullies' in other aspects of life praised, and often 'let off the hook' for their behavior?
My example would be in Sports, (Sorry), Military, Banks, Wall Street.

And if we are reminding kids of 'how to appropriately be', yet the school does not enforce, it isn't effective.

At Morgan Elementary my children were bullied, for being vegetarians, and the girls were harrassed by many of the boys in the class. I would say sexually harrassed, which is hard to say about 5th graders.
I brought it to the attention of teachers, staff and principal.
I received the message that 'boys will be boys'. None of the boys named were disciplined for their behaviors at all, and my girls had to cope with it the rest of their time there. I moved them from Morgan the following year.
My girls learned a lesson. They were sexually harrassed and bullied and the perpetuaters of this behavior were never punished. That was their lesson from the outside world.
Their internal lesson was they were better than that, and their mom took control the best she could and moved them.
This is my story. A small one in a small town. Multiply it by thousands upon thousands.
We are a culture of bullying, on so many levels, in so many areas. Kudos to everyone who call it out. Call it what it is. Don't be so afraid anymore. Kudos to your guests Cody.

  3. Interesting show Cody. I liked your self-regulation angle on bullying. That was good:) The ideas discussed were really a nice blend of systemic and individual changes we can help with.
